How do you write an annual to-do list for Colorado gardens when we can see three seasons in a single week — or in a single half-day drive? It might be spring in Fort Collins, still winter in Aspen and already summer in Pueblo. Even the rule of thumb about planting peas on St. Patrick’s Day has a lot of wiggle room. So take these monthly chore lists as a guide, not a decree, and remember that we can swing from snow-covered to too hot and too dry in a couple of weeks. And then swing back. Care for cool-season lawns and attack weeds in spring and fall; plant water-wise selections at all times, pampering them a little bit until they’re established; and care for your soil year-round.
